THE MAKING OF A REAL ESTATE MOGUL

Fletcher Bright is Chattanooga’s own local real estate mogul. Joining the family practice in 1953, the real estate guru sees great things ahead for Chattanooga as the local icon celebrates his 86th year.

With a flurry of new real estate endeavors underway in the heart of downtown Chattanooga, Fletcher Bright believes it’s important to always be seeking out new opportunities. Looking for potential in different spaces, after all, is what has made Bright the successful businessman and real estate developer of today.

Starting in 1927, Bright’s father began a local real estate company. Joining right out of college, Bright began his career in real estate strongly. While the company was simply a 3 man show in 1953, today the Fletcher Bright Company boasts more than 50 employees as well as 2 locations. The company of today even consists of a third generation in the Bright family, Fletcher Bright’s son George.

George Bright joined the family business in 1979 and credits the businesses success on his father’s openness and vision. The company currently owns more than one hundred shopping centers and is responsible for the building of scores of Walmart’s over the last few decades.
Bright has always been committed to commercial real estate development, but wary of the markets, always knew that residential development was the key to longevity in the real estate business.

What makes the company so competitive in a rather saturated market is both its imitative and diversity. The company even consults out of town on numerous projects across the country. The company’s commitment to their clients has built and solidified its loyal client base.

One of the company’s, and Bright’s, biggest personal achievements was the creation and development of Elder Mountain. Elder Mountain was one of Chattanooga’s largest land developments in history. It is a three hundred acre project that included building infrastructure such as roads, and literally building an entire neighbourhood from the ground up.

It was just before 1970 that Bright began to eye commercial real estate as the company’s main business. Bright believed in pursuing all business types and saw the potential in commercial real estate development. From shopping malls, to retail outlets, strip malls to warehouses, Bright oversaw it all and carved the company as a household name in and around the Chattanooga area.

Bright is not only renowned for his extensive real estate experience, but his musical prowess as well. Despite his business aptitude, Bright was a notable Blue Grass enthusiast and was the founder of local Blue Grass band the Dismembered Tennesseans. Earning him notable awards and accolades in the Chattanooga and Tennessee music company, Fletcher Bright remains as of Chattanooga’s brightest lights.

With the third generation of Bright men at the helm, and an onslaught of third generation family members involved in the operations, there’s no doubt that the Fletcher real estate legacy will remain strong in the decades to come.
